The monkey-puzzle tree is still a
feature of Beechfield today. Sadly the canteen and some other trees have gone.
The blossom trees pictured on the right behind the magnolia
trees were Japanese and their name allegedly translated into "The Emperor In His Carriage Turned And
Stared". They were beautiful too, you could imagine an emperor stopping his carriage and staring at them!
In spring 1984, I was a prize winner in a Polaroid Photographic Competition
with
taken elsewhere in the gardens.
