Peter originally trained as a ceramicist at Bath Academy of Art, going on to teach ceramics for 30 years, before concentrating on wood carving. While the ceramic form is still an obvious influence on his carved work, much of his inspiration comes from the natural form of the parent wood of each piece. He does not use a lathe, instead his range of bowls, wooden spoons - which may be huge ladles or tiny teaspoons - and figurative work is produced using a combination of grinding, drilling and power sanding. All his pieces are hand carved, coloured and finished. |
