MICHAEL FINN grew up in Surrey
and attended Kingston-upon-Thames School of Art. After war service as a

distinguished teaching career at the Somerset College of Art. In 1958 he
became Principal of Falmouth School of Art. He was appointed Principal of
the prestigious Bath Academy of Art in Corsham in 1972, where he remained
until his retirement in the early 1980's. Black into gold with white

Influenced by the
abstract expressionist work of Mark Rothko and others, Finn’s post
retirement work explores the relationship between colour and space
creating perfectly balanced and harmonious compositions that are "areas
of colour in which to rest and enjoy the quiet".
Michael still
exhibits widely and among other venues, has a major show planned for the
Newlyn Gallery in February 2001.
Michael Finn lives on the
outskirts of St Just with his wife Celia.
