ARTIST'S
STATEMENT
I paint, in watercolour and gouache, subjects
taken from my locality; Loch Lomondside, the Firth of
Clyde, the Arrochar Alps, the Campsie Fells, Argyll and the
Trossachs. I also gather material during holiday visits,
recently to the Outer Hebrides and Arran, where the whole
spectrum of weather can be experienced in a single
day.
I am primarily interested in weather conditions
and aim to give a sense of the impending weather, i.e.
before rain, threatened snow, after rain,
windswept, stillness. I attempt to do this by rendering
particular effects of light on the landscape or seascape,
cast shadows, changes in focus, clarity to soft,
veiled, misty, patches and pockets of
light.
